This!

> Put your earplugs in BEFORE you arrive at the club. Humans perceive a drop in volume as a drop in energy, so don’t wait until you get to the club to put them in.

Somehow I’ve never heard that tip before, but it makes so much sense, thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you for your advocacy about this! I recently got custom earplugs made and the change in both comfort and audio quality at events has been enormous. The point about hearing conversation more clearly is really underrated -- I was constantly taking my over-the-counter ear plugs out to chat at events, but with the customs I can keep them in all night and still hear people when I need. Game changer.

Incredibly valuable (and deeply compassionate) stuff here, and such an important conversation everyone benefits from having.

Thank you for this! You provide not only the key technical information, but more importantly, the right attitude towards new habit formation. I'm 45 and I want to dance and rave into my old age, and these "fine tips" will allow me to do so. Bravo!

Thank you very much Eris for this Fine Tip, very helpful. Last year after a hearing accident I had at a rave (2019) I discovered that my left ear is damaged. It was something sad. But I find a lot of encouragement and good omens to continue my path in music with tips and care like these. Very generous and nice of you. PS: I'm already making an appointment with an audiologist after reading this to have my custom earplugs haha <3

Thanks for writing this. So many people--both the club attendees and the DJs--need to be more aware of their hearing and sadly many only realize this after it's too late. I'm also sorry to hear about the hyperacusis but glad to hear it was only temporary. For many it's permanent but it's still not given much attention by the medical world. Many ENTs still don't even acknowledge it exists and those hearing specialists that do often think it's just "psychological". There are proven treatments for tinnitus now (Lenire) but sadly I don't think they will figure out H for a long time so for now it's something you just have to adjust your brain to (and it can be done, it just takes time).

Dear Eris! Thanks for taking your valuable time to write this down to help others! I love to read you and it’s so cool that you share your experiences with others! I just made an appointment to get my earplugs redone - lost them years ago at a festival and now your text brought the topic up again. Thanks for caring so much for others like me. Lots of good vibes for you! Pilar

❤️ thank you for sharing your experiences! I had a negative experience with silicone plugs (ie. Earpeace, eargasm, etc.) where abrasions occurred in my ear canal during long wear (6+ hrs). It resulted in months long dealings with ear infections, pressure, soreness, and unsympathetic ENT’s. I know for me the experience was very isolating. I’ve since made the switch to disposable foam plugs as I save up to visit an audiologist and get some custom plugs. That way I can dance and mix with peace of mind.

cannot imagine going to a loud space without my custom earplugs anymore. Hyperacusis sufferer since a while - long dj sets definitely take a toll indeed. The most difficult I feel is balancing "enjoying" the sound and being cautious of not gradually increasing the monitors and headphones throughout the set...
